Best Sit On Top River Kayak Buyer’s Guide
Buying the best sit on top river kayak involves more than just reading reviews. You also need to be aware of and look for certain key features to pick the best one for your needs. Those key attributes include the capacity of the kayak, the type of seating, and the drive type. Let’s take a closer look at each.
Capacity
The maximum Capacity refers to the total amount of weight the kayak can support without capsizing. Most single-person kayaks support anywhere from 250 lbs to 300 lbs. This includes gear and rider weight. Most tandem kayaks have a maximum Capacity of 500 lbs to 600 lbs including gear. It is important to know the capacity of your kayak before buying to ensure you are making the right choice in watercraft.
Seating
There are several different types of seats that come with these kayaks. The first is the molded plastic seat. We normally find this seat to be the least expensive of them all, but it is also the one that will most likely leave you wanting an upgrade. They are usually hard plastic with cheap pads with them.
The next seat is the padded removable seat. We liked these because of their affordable price and high-quality material. The only downside to these seats is they tend to slide forward during long trips. Other than that these are very comfortable seats and are a great buy for their price.
Finally, the aluminum-framed seats are the most comfortable. They are solid, adjustable, and don’t slide forward or backward while paddling. The only downside to these seats is they may be hard to store because of their above-average size. Nevertheless, these are a super comfortable seat and will keep you dry and in place throughout your whole trip.
Drive Type
Some kayaks have different drive types. The main three are hand-powered, pedal drive, and regular paddles.
You will find that most of the hand and pedal-powered kayaks are significantly more expensive than the paddle-driven ones. However, they will relieve strain on your arms and may be ideal for older paddlers.
On the other hand, pedal-powered boats come in fewer models and have less customizability than normal kayaks. Knowing these facts it is important to pick the right kayak to fit your needs.
Conclusion
Now that you have read our reviews of the best it on stop river kayak and our buyer’s guide, you should be able to make an educated decision on which model is right for you. If you are an advanced angler you may end up spending more on a top-level river kayak. On the other hand, if you are just a beginner then you may end up spending a bit less.
