In our opinion, the SOWKT 18 x 6 Feet Floating Water Pad is the best floating water mat for lake use. This mat measures 18×6 feet, so there is tons of room for fun. It can hold an amazing 1320 pounds. It is made from high-quality XPE foam that measures 1.3″ thick. For safety, this water mat comes in cool colors that are highly visible.
We love that the SOWKT 18 x 6 Feet Floating Water Pad comes with everything you need, such as a Bungee Tether Leash, Heavy-Duty Carabiner, and extra-long touch fastener straps. Not to mention it is backed by a 1-year warranty. Given the durability of this water pad, however, it is highly unlikely that you would need to make a warranty claim.
The only downside that we found with this lake water pad is that it is a little bit expensive. That said, we found the quality to more than make up for the higher price.

2. Rubber Dockie 18x6-Feet Floating Water Mat
![]() | Rubber Dockie 18x6-Feet Floating Water Mat Review Pros: – Tear-proof – Bold colors – Heavy-duty Cons: – Colors prone to sun-fading |
The Rubber Dockie 18x6-Feet Floating Water Mat is our next favorite best floating water pad for lake use. This water mat really stands out to us because it from a USA company and is made from closed cell foam. The foam is made into a Tear Stop Inner Matrix that is able to help prevent punctures and lacerations from becoming full length. In addition, the Rubber Dockie mat features a Tuff-Hide Outer Membrane Treatment increasing its durability even further.
The bold green and orange colors help to ensure maximum visibility. It comes with a 12-foot elastic bungee tether and a pair of hook and loop storage straps with metal buckles.
We did read that some users have had issues with the sun causing the colors to fade.

3. Floating Oasis Lake Pad
![]() | Floating Oasis Lake Pad Review Pros: – 1500 pound capacity – Accessories included – Heavy-duty Cons: – Colors not very bright |
The Floating Oasis Lake Pad is another excellent floating water pad. While it is a little bit smaller than the two previous pads that we reviewed, it can hold up to a whopping 1500 pounds!
The Floating Oasis is made in the USA from a tear and puncture-resistant polyethylene (PE) foam. The two-layer blue and red colors are UV-resistant, but we do wish that they were brighter for increased visibility.
Lastly, we like that this floating lake pad comes with these accessories: durable nylon straps, D-Ring tethering system, bungee anchor line.

4. Big Joe 2050ABDS Waterpad
![]() | Big Joe 2050ABDS Waterpad Review Pros: – Cheap – Built-in cup holders Cons: – Too thin – Poor color choice for a water pad |
The Big Joe 2050ABDS Waterpad is a decent lake water pad, but there are reasons that it didn’t make the top of our review list.
First, the Big Joe is only 1.2″ thick, while most others are 1.5″ or more. This means that this water pad cannot hold as much weight as the others, despite claims that it can hold up to 1500 pounds. Also, when an adult attempts to stand on this mat, it has a tendency to give way and allow water onto it. Other mats are much better at supporting the weight of adults.
Being blue-green in color, it is not very visible at all in the water. We do like how the anchoring grommets at the corners can double as cup holders. All in all, this isn’t a bad water pad for the money, but there are better options for sale.

5. Goplus 12' x 6’ Floating Water Pad
![]() | Goplus 12' x 6’ Floating Water Pad Review Pros: – Cheap – Vibrant colors Cons: – Small – Stiff foam material |
The Goplus 12' x 6’ Floating Water Pad is the smallest and cheapest option on our list. This water pad is a good choice if you have a smaller boat or plan to have fewer people using it.
This lake water mat is 1.5″ thick and made from XPE foam. We like the orange and green colors which are nicely visible in the water. It is a 3-layer design, which some users have stated makes it difficult to roll up and store. The foam material also seems to be more rigid than some of the others, which may lead to more tears, cracks, or punctures. Weight capacity tops out at 882 pounds, which is about half of all of the other water pads that we reviewed above.
While this is a more budget-friendly option than some of the other water pads for sale, we feel that the added costs of the others are more than made up for with larger, longer-lasting products.
Best Floating Water Mat For Lake Use Buyer’s Guide
When you are ready to purchase a floating water mat for the lake, you should carefully consider several key features. Those being size & capacity, materials, and the color of the floating water pad.
Size & Capacity
When shopping for the best floating water mat for lake use perhaps the biggest thing to take into consideration is the side of the mat. A larger size floating mat will typically allow for a greater capacity. You want to be sure that you purchase a floating water pad that is large enough to accommodate the number of people that you plan to be enjoying your lake time with.
An 18′ x 6′ water pad should be able to hold about 5-8 people, while a 12′ x 6’ will only hold about 3-4 adults.
Materials
While all of the floating water mats that we reviewed are made out of foam, there are different types of foam and construction. For example, some are 2-layers while others are 3-layers. Some foam materials are more durable and tear-resistant than others. This is why it is important to read reviews and compare warranties before buying a floating water pad for lake use. Since most water mats cost several hundred dollars, you want to be sure that you’re spending that money on a product that will last you as long as possible.
Color
The primary reason to consider the color of the floating pad is safety. It is important to pick a water mat that is brightly colored, giving it the most visibility in the water. Mats that are blue or green in color are the hardest to see, while red, orange, and yellow mats are the most visible to boaters. When you are out on the water enjoying a great time with friends, the last thing that you want to be worrying about is another boat running into your mat because they didn’t see it.
Conclusion
Floating water pads can provide an extreme amount of fun for you and your friends while out on the water for a day. You can sit on them and sip drinks while just chilling out, or the kids can have a blast wrestling on them. Thankfully, you have several good options to choose from.
It is important to pick a mat large enough to accommodate your entire crew, this is vibrantly colored, and made from durable, heavy-duty foam. Getting a high-quality floating water pad typically requires spending a little bit more money, rather than going for the cheapest option. This is almost always a wise investment.
We hope that you now have a better understanding of how to pick the best floating water mat for lake use. Good luck with your purchase and be safe!
